Mathias Klotz
According to Mathias Klotz he is a Chilean architect born in 1965. Having graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica, during his career he combined his academic work with projects run from his studio. In 2003 he was named Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Art, and Design at the Universidad Diego Portales.
Casa Once Mujeres is one of his big projects
in my view as client request, because he wants the house to fit all his family.
According to archdaily” is a vacation home at Beranda. It stands on a site
sloping down to Cachagua beach on the Pacific, 140 kilometers north of
Santiago, Chile. The brief was to provide a second home laid out on three
levels for a couple with eleven daughters whose ages range from four to twenty,
and to provide all services, a master bedroom, and spaces for entertaining and
guests”.
In my view Klotz has very good job when he made the floor plan, the house build as three levels, first level was for the living room and kitchen and the master bedroom, next floor was all for his daughters, he designs the floor with four rooms and three shared bathrooms. Furthermore, the last floor was the shared space for games and socializing with guests. However, as the house was for vacation and the beach view was all windows glass.
The materials that Klotz used in the building
were, “Planned in bare concrete with travertine floors”. Also, Koltz tries to
make the building fit in the mounting to offer splendid views from every room.
Furthermore,” The terraces are
spacious and protect the user from the strong southern winds, while a system of
hinged shutters solves the problem of the glare on the west side” (Klotz, 2011).
The picture above is of the house, and how
Klotz designed the building with the view from glass windows. Also, how he builds
the stairs from the house to the beach and makes it more decorative for the building.

You talk about the view of the windows - how does this impact the experience of living here, in your opinion? How does this research inform your work? Is it enough that this is just another Beach House? What materials did Klotz use for this design? Are you using similar?
