Dresden was bombed during the Second World War. Here are pictures from then and now.

On February 13 and 14, Dresden will remember the Allied firebombing of 1945, which destroyed most of the city. This happened 70 years ago. Sean Gallup of Getty Images used a computer to combine pictures of the city after it was destroyed with pictures from today to make composite images that fold time.
City centre ruins, including Prager Strasse (Evening Standard), and the same view on 7 February 2015.
Heinz Grunewald, the head of propaganda, Walter Weidauer, the mayor of Dresden, and Dr. C. Herbert, the town's architect, stand outside of City Hall in March 1946 (Fred Ramage/Hulton Archive). the same place on February 12, 2015.
